BELLINGHAM, Wash. – More funding is on its way to Whatcom County, this time for flood reduction.

The Washington State Department of Ecology announced Thursday, August 31st, that a $10 million grant will go towards Phase 3 of the County’s “Floodplains That Work” project.

Its goals include reducing flood hazards, improving habitat and increasing the resiliency of rural communities to flooding near the Nooksack River.

Whatcom County was ranked first across the state for its grant proposal.

The multi-phase project began in 2019 and Phase 2 is projected to finish by 2025.
