SUCIA ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Four people were seriously injured when a commercial seaplane crashed near Sucia Island early Thursday evening, July 23.

Kenmore Airlines spokesperson Aaron Blank said 10 passengers and a pilot were on board the Otter seaplane when it went down in Shallow Bay at 5:15 p.m.

He stressed that there were no fatalities and all people on board have been accounted for.

The plane departed from Lake Union in Seattle at 4:30 p.m. and was destined for Roche Harbor on San Juan Island.

Two of the seriously injured people were transported to a medical facility on Orcas Island and two were taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham.

Blank said the Coast Guard arrived on the scene quickly and it appeared that they rescued the passengers and pilot.

He said it’s too early to know what caused the crash.
