Kraken hockey is back tonight.
Seattle’s opening their season on the road against the Calgary Flames. They’ll look to improve in Year 2 under head coach Lane Lambert after finishing last season with a bottom-six record in the NHL.
The team made a trade hours before their game earlier today, acquiring minor-league forward Devin Kaplan from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward David Goyette. Kaplan was a third-round pick in the 2022 draft and has only played one NHL game since then.
The Kraken will aim to start this year off strong tonight in the first of their two game trip up north.

The Seahawks are getting a key piece of their run game back.
The team announced today that running back Zach Charbonnet has been designated to return to practice. He can practice for up to 21 days before the team has to either elevate him to the 53-man roster or declare him out for the season.
Charbonnet hasn’t played since suffering an ACL injury against the 49ers on Jan. 17. He won’t be eligible to play in a game until Oct. 11 against the 49ers.
The Seahawks are in need of a boost to their ground game after first-round rookie running back Jadarian Price lost fumbles in each of the last two weeks and the team took 32 rushes for just 82 yards in their loss to the Commanders.
More Hawks are getting healthier too, with safety Julian Love saying today that he expects to play against the Chargers on Sunday after sitting out last week with a calf injury.

One of the Mariners’ reported top picks for manager is off the market.
The Athletic reports the Arizona Diamondbacks are re-signing Torey Lovullo to a two-year deal.
Lovullo has been with Arizona since 2017 as one of the longest-tenured managers in baseball. He led the D-Backs to the World Series in 2023.
The Seattle Times had previously reported that Lovullo appeared to be a leading candidate in the Mariners’ search for their next skipper.
President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto has said he plans to hire someone from outside the organization to replace Dan Wilson after their disappointing season.
MLB Playoffs News
We’ve got our first winner-takes-all game of the MLB playoffs tonight.
The Braves and Phillies are facing off in Atlanta in a decisive Game 3 to cap off the Wild Card round.
The Yankees, White Sox and Padres all won last night to move on to the divisional round.
There, the Guardians will play the White Sox and the Yankees will take on the Rays in the American League.
In the National League, the Padres will play the Brewers, while the defending champion Dodgers await the winner of tonight’s game between the Braves and Phillies.
First pitch for that game is at 5:00.

We’ve got a big trade in the NFL ahead of tonight’s Thursday Night Football matchup.
The Steelers traded star cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to the Cowboys last night for a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-rounder. The trade marked the end of a monthslong saga that stretched throughout the offseason as Porter awaited an extension and was sidelined by a back injury.
The Steelers are playing their division rival Browns in Cleveland tonight to kick off Week 4 of the NFL season.
That game gets underway at 5:15.
Prep Football News
Playoff allocations have been finalized for this year’s prep football season.
According to the Washington State Football Coaches Association, the Northwest Conference will send three teams to the Week 10 Round of 24 in Class 1A.
The conference will have five playoff berths to the Round of 32 in Class 2A.
In Class 3A, Ferndale’s Wesco league will send seven teams to the Round of 32.
The announcement comes as the latest coach’s poll was just released ahead of Week 5.
Mount Baker moved up from No. 7 to No. 5 in the state in Class 1A, while Lynden Christian and Nooksack Valley stayed put at numbers 2 and 4, respectively.
Anacortes remained the No. 1 team in 2A and Lynden also stuck at No. 4.
Ferndale dropped out of the 3A rankings after their loss to Glacier Peak.
The Zone’s Friday Night Lights show is live from Lynden Christian tomorrow for the Lyncs’ game against Meridian on KPUG. We’ll also be airing Nooksack Valley’s game against Blaine on KGMI.
