Mariners News

The Mariners were handed their worst loss of the season this afternoon.

They fell to the Detroit Tigers 11-0 in their rubber match at T-Mobile Park. Bryce Miller’s recent struggles continued as he gave up four runs in five innings and the M’s bullpen had another rough outing, to the point that outfielder Victor Robles ended the game on the mound.

It was the 11th time this season the Mariners have been shut out, which is tied for most in the MLB.

The M’s were without skipper Dan Wilson today, who was suspended following last night’s scrum against the Tigers. Reliever Gabe Speier was suspended three games after hitting Detroit’s Gleyber Torres with a pitch in last night’s game, which led to an altercation that cleared out both benches and bullpens.

Speier is appealing the ban.

The Mariners are back tomorrow night as they close out their homestand with the first of three games against the American League-leading Tampa Bay Rays. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:45 on KPUG.

Bells News

The Bells are gearing up for the playoffs tomorrow after ending the regular season on a high note.

Bellingham beat the Edmonton Riverhawks 6-2 at Joe Martin Field last night in their regular season finale.

Noah Cassie homered twice and Rominic Quiban added a solo shot of his own. Bellingham’s pitchers dominated, tossing eight shutout innings before the Hawks picked up a pair of late runs in the ninth.

It was Edmonton’s final game of the season, as they were eliminated from playoff contention.

The Bells’ first postseason opponent is now set, as they’ll take on the Nanaimo NightOwls in a best-of-three series to open the West Coast League playoffs. Game 1 takes place in Nanaimo at 6:35 tomorrow night before the Bells return to Bellingham for Game 2 and Game 3, if necessary.

The team’s also hosting a watch party at Larrabee Lager for their playoff opener tomorrow night starting at 6.

Sounders News

The Sounders’ midseason woes continued last night.

They fell to Mexico’s Toluca FC 3-0 in their first Leagues Cup match. It marked Seattle’s seventh straight loss. 

The Leagues Cup tournament features 18 teams from Liga MX and 18 teams from the MLS in head-to-head matchups for three games before the knockout rounds. The Sounders enter as the defending Leagues Cup champions, but have been hit a low-point this season.

They’ll look to rebound at Lumen Field on Sunday against Queretaro FC.

Storm News

Things haven’t been going much better for the Storm.

They fell to the New York Liberty 92-86 last night for their tenth straight loss. Dominique Malonga scored a game-high 31 points, but not much else went right as the Storm stayed put at the bottom of the league standings.

They’ll look to snap their skid when they continue their road trip against the Portland Fire on Saturday.

NFL News

The NFL is officially back.

The preseason started tonight with the Hall of Fame Game between the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals. They kick off at 5:00 on KPUG.

The Seahawks open their preseason at Lumen Field next Saturday against the Cowboys.

Elsewhere across the league, we had another record-breaking deal.

ESPN reports the Detroit Lions have agreed to a contract extension with Jahmyr Gibbs that makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. The three-year deal carries an average annual value of $22.5 million, surpassing Bijan Robinson’s contract he got earlier this week with Atlanta.

The Indianapolis Colts also handed Jonathan Taylor a two-year, $44 million extension today to continue the big bucks being given to the league’s top running backs.
