NEWHALEM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – WSDOT crews fully reopened the N Cascades Hwy Sunday, June 14 after completing repair work between the Ross Dam Trailhead and Porcupine Creek.
That section of road has been closed since December, when historic flooding caused washouts on that part of the highway.
WSDOT had initially set a goal to reopen the road by the Fourth of July. But crews were quickly able to stabilize slopes and repave the damaged road nearly 3 weeks ahead of schedule. The last expected opening date was June 19.
Construction crews will be removing equipment from the road this week and are asking drivers to be cautious of any remaining work in the area.
