Week 4 of the high school football season continues tonight with a full slate of matchups across Whatcom County.

Lynden got things started last night with a 57-0 win over Bellingham, while Ferndale fell to Glacier Peak 35-22.

Tonight, Allan Fee and The Zone crew are live at Nooksack Valley High School for the Pioneers’ first-ever football matchup against Squalicum. They’ll preview that game and all the other ones happening across the county, leading up to the 7:00 kickoff on KPUG with Jason Upton and Rick Todd on the call.

But first, the night kicks off at Lummi Nation, when the Blackhawks host Muckleshoot Tribal School. That game gets underway at 5:30 on KBAI with Randy Farmer and the coach Dan Kaemingk on the call.

Elsewhere across the county tonight…

Mount Baker is on the road against Omak at 6:00.

Starting at 7, Sehome hosts Lakewood.

And Meridian is playing at Onalaska.

 

Coming up tomorrow…

Lynden Christian hosts La Center at 2:00.

And Blaine hosts King’s at 3.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks look like they’ll have their QB1 back for this weekend’s game against the Commanders.

Mike Macdonald says Sam Darnold is off the injury report and good to go for Sunday’s game in D.C. Darnold has missed most of the team’s first two games with a glute injury.

The Seahawks are on the road against a Washington Commanders team that will be missing their starting quarterback Jayden Daniels, with Marcus Mariota set to start against Seattle.  The Hawks will look to push their franchise-record win streak to 13 as they take on a shorthanded Commanders squad that’s seeking its first win of the year.

Coverage begins at 8 am Sunday and kickoff is at 10 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, Week 3 of the NFL season kicked off last night as the Falcons beat the Packers 35-14 to earn their first win. Former Huskies standout Michael Penix Jr. threw for 256 yards and a touchdown with one interception in his season debut.

Speaking of the Huskies, they’re opening Big Ten play tomorrow.

They’re hosting Minnesota in their first conference showdown of the season.

Washington is looking to make their way back into the national rankings despite a perfect 3-0 start to the season. They’re taking on a 2-1 Gophers team whose sole loss came to Mississippi State in Week 2.

Coverage begins at 6:00 and kickoff is at 8 tomorrow night on KGMI.

Meanwhile, the Cougs are hosting Arizona as Wazzu looks to build momentum from getting their first win of the season last week. That game kicks off at 4:30 tomorrow afternoon.

Mariners News

It’s the final weekend of Mariners baseball this season.

The M’s are playing their last three games at home against the Los Angeles Angels. They lost the series opener 6-4 last night, just after officially being eliminated from the playoff race as they limp to the finish line of their disappointing season.

Their final few games will celebrate the longtime voice of the Mariners with Rick Rizzs Farewell Weekend, as Rizzs is set to retire after the season following 41 years with the team.

Tonight will feature postgame fireworks before Rizzs throws out the first pitch tomorrow. Anyone who attends Sunday’s season finale will receive a Rick Rizzs placard and some special tickets come with a Rick Rizzs T-shirt.

NBA News

The former voice of the Seattle SuperSonics has found a new home.

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced today that Kevin Calabro will serve as their play-by-play broadcaster this season.

Calabro had been the Blazers’ TV play-by-play man since 2016 until his contract expired this past summer. Before that, he spent 21 seasons calling Sonics games among other broadcasting roles.

Western’s women’s soccer team got the school year started with an impressive win.

Freshman Madeline Mays scored a hat trick to lead the Vikings over Montana State Billings 3-0 last night. It was their fifth shutout of the season and extended their unbeaten streak to six.

Coming up tomorrow, they have a big match against 23rd nationally-ranked Seattle Pacific. That gets underway at 7 pm from Harrington Field.

Meanwhile, the men’s team edged Saint Martin’s 1-0 yesterday as they cap off their extended road trip against Western Oregon tomorrow morning.

Western volleyball also has a big match tomorrow. They’re facing 22nd nationally-ranked Alaska Fairbanks up north, with the Viks coming fresh off falling in a five-set thriller to Alaska Anchorage last night.
