FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Some Ferndale schools were placed on lockdown on Wednesday, Nov. 4, due to a large law enforcement response to a reported burglary.
The Ferndale Police Department says officers responded to a report of a residential burglary on the 5900 block of Monument Drive around 10:52 a.m. Wednesday.
They did not know whether the suspects were armed or still inside, and formed a perimeter outside the home.
The department called the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team to safely clear the scene. The multi-agency response also included Washington State Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
City of Ferndale spokesperson Megan Juenemann says the incident was not associated with nearby schools, but they were still placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.
Ferndale Police did not disclose any information about the suspects, whether an arrest was made or details about the burglary report, citing an ongoing investigation.
The Whatcom County Jail booking log did not show any arrests for burglary with Ferndale Police as the arresting agency as of 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The department says it does not believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety or cause for public concern at this time.
