WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another burn ban is being lifted in light of recent rainfall.

The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office says that they’ll be lifting a Stage 1 burn ban as of 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1.

That means outdoor burning, including debris burns, will be allowed throughout most of unincorporated Whatcom County.

Both written and verbal burn permits will be allowed starting at 8 a.m.

The fire marshal is urging residents living in Point Roberts, Sandy Point and Lummi Island to contact their respective fire districts before starting any fires.

Skagit County announced Monday they will be lifting their burn ban for unincorporated parts of the county on the same day. Washington state Department of Ecology officials add that the statewide burn ban will formally expire at midnight Thursday, Oct. 1.

Any outdoor fires should be started and monitored with caution, as vegetation is still on the drier side and could spread quickly.
