The announcement comes after Blaine Border Patrol reported that its agents helped arrest six illegal immigrants on Sunday. 

Whatcom County currently solely operates the shelter and the interlocal agreement would not give the City of Bellingham control over its operations.

The city council is considering two ordinances that aim to curtail excessive fees, colloquially referred to as “junk fees.”
