The Bellingham City Council unanimously approved a purchase of two parcels of land in the Lake Whatcom watershed.

The Dept. of Ecology forecasts the final agreement between the two states and the Canadian province won’t be ready until late 2025 at the earliest.

The vote comes about a month after the board unanimously opposed a proposed energy storage project in an unincorporated part of the county.

The Political Action Committee, who is backing three initiatives on the November ballot in Washington, may have violated campaign finance law.

With no Republican having held the governor’s post in nearly 40 years, Reichert faces an uphill battle in November.

Bob Ferguson, a Democrat who has been attorney general since 2013, will face former Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert on Sept. 18.

The short-term funding will support the services through next spring.

The shelter protection ordinance would ban all camping, sitting or sleeping on the sidewalk and living in vehicles in this area.

The city was one of 46 clean energy projects across Washington that the state Department of Commerce divvied a portion of its investment to.

The city will use the funds to remove toxic waste from the Cornwall Avenue Landfill Site, which used to be a wood treatment facility and municipal waste landfill.
