The county council unanimously approved Dr. Aldo Fusaro as interim medical examiner during its meeting on Sept. 10.

The Whatcom County Council unanimously approved funding for the new shelter, which will house women and children experiencing homelessness.

The man will be sent to the state’s civil commitment center for sexual predators on McNeil Island until his civil commitment trial in 2025.

The statewide data showed math comprehension rising across almost all grade levels, meanwhile English language arts scores have slightly dropped across nearly every grade level.

The majority of the facilities are located in western Washington, with the nearest one being the Indian Ridge Youth Camp near Arlington, though it has since been demolished.

Part of the planning includes ways to cut traffic fatalities and make transportation more accessible.  

The interim Medical Examiner is expected to begin his role with the county following the council’s next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

A recount was ordered after Upthegrove posted an even smaller lead immediately following the primary. 

Whatcom County Superior Court ruled that the initiative to repeal the childcare fund was functionally invalid.

The board argues that if the project is approved, it would undo work to restore salmon and other native fish populations within Hansen Creek.
