
The county council will hold a public hearing on the change on Jan. 14, 2025.

The project will bring a new sidewalk, traffic signal and more to the Fairhaven area.

WSDOT has not disclosed a reason for the closures, but they are encouraging drivers to use the Bow Hill rest areas instead.

The change comes after a fatal crash at the intersection on Oct. 31, when an 11-year-old child was killed by a speeding driver who was going around 100 mph.

The man faces several charges, including assault, reckless driving and driving without a valid license.

Crews will continue to remove hazardous trees between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. over the next two days.

The Port of Seattle expects 1.5 million people to pass through Sea-Tac from now until Saturday, Nov. 30. Meanwhile, WSDOT is expecting nearly 300,000 passengers on state ferries through Sunday, Dec. 1.

Whatcom County roads are still seeing the effects of Tuesday night’s bomb cyclone.

Officials expect the project to last about 50 days beginning in April of 2025. The roads will be partially and fully closed in and near that intersection during that time.
