WSDOT announced the reopening shortly after noon on Wednesday.

Expect delays and consider alternate routes, especially with other overnight I‑5 closures south of Bellingham still in place.

Alaska Airlines is among several major U.S. carriers that are increasing their fees for checked bags as a result.

WSDOT says that all lanes of I-5 northbound between North Lake Samish and Old Fairhaven Parkway are scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. on Thursday, April 16.

It comes as SR 544 is scheduled to close between Everson Bridge and Everson Elementary School starting next Wednesday, April 15. That will not reopen until mid-July as crews install new sidewalks.

A big bit of progress came last week when crews split the large “bus-sized” rock into two pieces.

Crews will be constructing temporary lane crossovers in preparation for fish passage work later this spring.

Construction is starting to pick up with the arrival of spring in everywhere from neighborhood streets to high-traffic corridors.
