BELLINGHAM, WA (KGMI.com) – A potential property swap could provide more funding for school construction projects in Washington.

The state Department of Natural Resources says they’re looking to exchange land ownership of a vacant office building in Issaquah for the parcel of land that houses the Sehome Village Haggen in Bellingham.

DNR owns about 1.8 million acres of property, including the Issaquah building, that funds the state’s Common School Trust.

However, they claim that the office building is underproducing funds for the trust, which helps K-12 school construction projects statewide.

RCO Capital is in the process of acquiring the Sehome Haggen.

They would receive the Issaquah office building if the swap goes through.

A public meeting regarding the exchange is set for Thursday, December 14th.

It’ll be held starting at 5:30 at the Mount Baker Room of the Four Points Sheraton in Bellingham.

Public comment is welcome at the meeting or can be emailed ahead of time.

Additional written comments about the proposed plan can be submitted through December 28th.
