WHATCOM COUNTY, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued flood warnings to areas of Whatcom County near the Nooksack River.

The NWS updated at 8:01 p.m. Sunday that the Nooksack River is due to crest over the banks due to rainfall early Sunday morning. Areas that are forecasted to be affected are Sumas, Everson and Nooksack.

Originally, the flood warning was issued to last until Monday afternoon but the NWS has shifted the flood warning to last until Tuesday. At 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, the Nooksack River was measured at 16.8 feet; the flood stage is set at 18 feet. The river is forecasted to crest at 20 feet and drop below the 18-foot flood stage early Tuesday morning.

The NWS has urged the public to stay off of roads affected by potential flooding.
