SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new affordable housing project for seniors is moving forward at a familiar location in Skagit County.
They announced Thursday, Oct. 29 that the new housing units will be located at the current site of the Mount Vernon senior center.
In addition to senior housing, the county also plans to build a residential clubhouse at the site to connect tenants with support services.
The Washington Department of Commerce awarded the county over $1.5 million last year, which covers costs associated with the project’s design process and overall functionality.
Skagit County signed an agreement with the Housing Authority of Skagit County to begin the planning and design phases.
Mount Vernon’s current senior center will continue to operate as usual through the end of 2027.
County officials have not yet identified a future location for the senior center, but say they’re aiming to have a new center open by early 2028.
