BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Ferndale teen has passed away from injuries following a motocross accident at the Hannegan Speedway.

The Mount Baker Motorcycle Club says that 14-year-old Owen Morton was participating in a motocross race on the night of Thursday, May 16, where Morton was involved in a serious accident. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and after hours of surgery, Morton died from his injuries on the morning of May 17.

A family friend wrote in a GoFundMe campaign that the event was Morton’s first time participating in a dirt bike race. As of Monday, May 20, around $32,000 of the campaign’s $75,000 goal had been raised.

The Mount Baker Motorcycle Club says that they are working on a memorial project for Morton and will announce more details in the near future.
