Mariners News
Two of the Mariners top hitters underwent offseason surgery.
The team gave medical updates on catcher Cal Raleigh and first baseman Josh Naylor this morning.
They said Raleigh underwent a left shoulder AC debridement procedure at the UW Medical Center on Saturday. Big Dumper’s coming off a struggle-filled season that was also hampered by an oblique strain that landed him on the injured list for nearly a month.
Meanwhile, the club says Naylor underwent TFCC repair surgery on his right wrist.
Both players are expected to fully recover before the start of spring training.
Seahawks News
The Seahawks are looking to improve their run game with the addition of a former Pro Bowl back.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the team plans to sign Joe Mixon to their practice squad after he completes his medical exam today.
The 2x Pro Bowler rushed for 1,000 yards in five separate seasons between Cincinnati and Houston. But the 30-year-old hasn’t played since 2024 after suffering a leg injury.
The move comes as Seattle’s top two backs are currently out. Mike Macdonald confirmed today that Zach Charbonnet will remain sidelined for their next game against the 49ers, while Jadarian Price will miss at least four games after the team placed him on the injured reserve with a chest injury.
The Seahawks are coming off a 30-23 win over the Chargers yesterday to improve to 3-1 on the season. They did it despite racking up a franchise-record 150 yards in penalties, as Uchenna Nwosu sealed the win by forcing a late fumble that was picked up by Derick Hall.
Next up, they’re hosting the undefeated 49ers on Sunday in a divisional showdown.
Huskies/Cougs News
The Huskies lost another close one over the weekend.
They fell on the road to USC 25-21. UW led 21-10 midway through the third quarter, but the 19th nationally-ranked Trojans scored the final 15 points of the game with help from a 48-yard fumble return touchdown.
The Huskies now fall to 3-2 on the season and 0-2 in Big Ten play ahead of a Friday night home game against No. 20 Iowa.
Meanwhile, the Cougs dropped their first game of Pac-12 play in a 26-6 loss to Fresno State.
Kraken News
The Kraken continued their impressive start to the season last night.
They beat the Calgary Flames 6-1 in their home opener. Seattle came out hot with three goals in the first eight minutes of the game and never looked back.
Mackie Samoskevich scored twice to lead the attack in their second 6-1 win over the Flames since Thursday.
It came after the Kraken lost their first game of the season on Saturday in Edmonton.
They’re back tomorrow night when they host the Vegas Golden Knights. Coverage begins at 6:00 and puck drops at 6:40 on KPUG.
In other hockey news, Washington Capitals legend Alex Ovechkin announced today that this will be his final season in the NHL.
