WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to last through the evening of Tuesday, June 4.
An atmospheric river is forecasted to bring up to two inches of rain to parts of Whatcom County over the next day.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Seattle issued a wind advisory for Bellingham, where gusts could reach up to 40 mph. The advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, and NWS warns that it could cause power outages from fallen tree limbs.
One fallen tree caused over 200 people in Bellingham’s Chuckanut neighborhood to lose power on the morning of June 3, and the incident briefly closed SR 11 at Soundview Road.
WSDOT is reminding drivers that some traffic lights might not be working due to power outages. The agency says that any intersection with failing traffic lights should be treated as an all way stop until the intersection is fixed.
