BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two runaway cows caused some confusion for Bellingham drivers over the weekend.

Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters says they received a report about the loose cows near E. Sunset and Hannegan around 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.

Peters says the cows were being taken to auction when they escaped from their trailer and ran onto the road. Officers followed the cattle with their car lights on in an attempt to scare the cattle off the roadway and warn drivers, before the cows split up.

Peters says one was last seen near the trail system at Woburn Street and E. Illinois and the other in a wooded area near the Sportsplex.

One cow was found exhausted late Saturday night near the intersection where it originally escaped.

The other cow is still unaccounted for.
