UPDATE: WSDOT has announced that rest areas in Custer have reopened as of 4:43 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21. 

CUSTER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Washington State Department of Transportation has announced a short-term closure to I-5 rest stops located in Custer.

WSDOT says that routine septic work has closed both of the Custer rest areas starting on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

The northbound and southbound rest areas are scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22.

At this time, the closest open rest area along I-5 in Whatcom County is at Bow Hill, approximately 30 miles south of the Custer rest area.
