WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – It’s Labor Day weekend in Whatcom County and that means it’s time for the North Cascades Bluegrass Festival. Head on out to the Deming Log Show grounds for two days of live music, workshops, food, craft vendors and a beer/cider garden. This year’s lineup features The North Cascades Bluegrass Band, Farmstrong, Arkansauce, the Kruger Brothers and more.

The North Cascades Bluegrass Festival runs Saturday, Aug. 31 through Sunday, Sept. 1. Go to ncbf.fun for all the details and to purchase tickets.

If you see a bunch of sailboats out on Bellingham Bay this weekend, fear not. It’s not the Spanish Armada… It’s the Bellingham Yacht Club’s 50th Annual PITCH Regatta. Sailors from Olympia to Canada will compete in one of the oldest regattas in the Salish Sea.

Besides the racing, the PITCH Regatta will offer a welcome party to all the participants with live music, a dinner from New Mexico Tamale Company, a Hawaiian dinner and an awards ceremony. So, if you’re sailing in the regatta this year, good luck. If you’re interested in watching, just take a nice long stroll along Bellingham’s waterfront.

The PITCH Regatta runs Friday, Aug. 30 through Sunday, Sept. 1. For all the details and to register for the race, go to the Bellingham Yacht Club’s website.

If you’re looking to catch some musical theater in Bellingham this weekend, you’re in luck. The BAAY Theatre presents: CATS. The iconic Broadway musical features students from BAAY’s summer State Street Theatre Company (ages 15 to 18) performing along with the music of the great Andrew Lloyd Webber.

There are multiple showings of CATS this Friday through Sunday with shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are for sale on the BAAY Theatre’s website. If online tickets sell out the theatre will be selling 20 tickets at the door.

Our featured live show this week is at The Shakedown in downtown Bellingham. Salt Pine will bring their swampy alternative country to the venue on State Street. If you can’t make it out to the North Cascades Bluegrass Festival, this is a great alternative.

Salt Pine is playing with North Country Highway and Mercy Mercy from Portland. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are just $10. Go to shakedownbellingham.com for all the details.

Have a safe and fun Labor Day weekend!
