WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A dog was rescued earlier this week after traveling nearly 100 feet into a culvert in Whatcom County.
South Whatcom Fire Authority Fire Chief Mitch Nolze says the call came in on Monday, Sept. 16, just off Chuckanut Drive.
The fire crew worked alongside neighbors and animal control to coordinate the roughly 3-hour-long rescue.
They first dug to the middle of the culvert and cut into the side of it to get eyes on the dog, but still couldn’t locate her. In a creative effort, the team rigged a Go-Pro type camera to a high-pressure hose and used it to snake up the culvert to find the dog, named Charlie.
They then used a larger hose to get the dog to walk roughly 100 feet towards the pipe’s exit, where she jumped safely into her owner’s arms.
Charlie was checked out by animal control and did not suffer any injuries or health concerns during the incident.
