BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – There’s a new hero coming to the rescue of the rogue cow gallivanting in a Bellingham neighborhood.

The Whatcom Humane Society (WHS) has taken over the effort to capture Mabel, a furry brown cow currently on the moo-ve in the Barkley area. Mabel has been loose since she got out of her trailer on Alabama Hill nearly two months ago.

WHS Director Laura Clark said in an email that the society is consulting with livestock veterinarians and animal welfare colleagues experienced in livestock care to safely capture Mabel. WHS is also working with property owners in the Barkley area.

Clark says that public safety is a concern for both the cow and residents. She asks the public not to approach Mabel if seen, but instead contact WHS to report her whereabouts.

WHS Animal Control can be reached at 360-733-2080 ext. 3017.
