WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Halloween week is here. It’s time to put the finishing touches on your costumes, throw some spooky music on the turntable, restock on candy and pick out that perfect pumpkin to transform into a jack-o-lantern. Ready or not, there are a bunch of fun activities planned across Whatcom County this weekend.

Why not join the fun up in Birch Bay? This Saturday, Oct. 26, the Birch Bay Trick-or-Treat on the Berm celebration runs from 3 to 5 p.m. It will be a fun-filled afternoon for the whole family with trick-or-treating and other activities hosted by Friends of the Birch Bay Library and Blaine-Birch Bay Parks and Recreation.

Make sure your costumes are on point before you head up because there will also be a costume contest with multiple categories including Little Kid (0-6), Big Kid (7-12), Teen and Adult (13+) and Duo or Group.

If you and the kids are looking for something a bit more subdued, head on over to the First Congregational Church in Bellingham. They’re hosting a Trunk or Treat event from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. There will be treats, decorated trunks and, of course, a whole world of fun.

The First Congregational Church is located at 2401 Cornwall Ave., so you’ll have easy access to the Lettered Streets and Sunnyland neighborhoods afterward for extracurricular, good old-fashioned trick-or-treating too.

Parents will likely be tired from all the trick-or-treating Saturday afternoon, so why not drag your kids to Fairhaven for some payback?

Get your creative juices flowing at Stones Throw Brewery with their Crave a Beer, Carve a Pumpkin event. Sip on some beers while you carve pumpkins that will be displayed during Fairhaven Trick or Treat on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Crave a Beer, Carve a Pumpkin runs Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. It’s a free, all-ages event and pumpkins and carving tools will be provided.

If you’re not dog-tired by Sunday, Oct. 27, check out the 3rd Annual Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade in downtown Bellingham. This canine costume contest is a fundraiser for The Zoe Fund of Shadow’s Forever Friend, which means you’ll help support low-income people pay for emergency veterinary care.

You can register your dog for the parade starting at noon and prizes will be awarded for Best Group Costume and Best Individual Costume. Judges this year include folks from Paws for a Beer, Shadow’s Forever Friends and Confident Canine Puppy Training. Shake and Shine Canine Wash and Deli will also be on hand celebrating their 10th anniversary.

The Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade kicks off at the corner of Railroad and Champion and runs from noon to 3 p.m. Donations will be accepted.

Of course, Halloween is on Thursday this year and there are a couple of fun music events to check out.

The Wild Buffalo will host their Scaraoke Halloween Karaoke Party starting at 9 p.m. Show off your costume and jump on stage to sing your favorite songs. If you’re nervous, fear not. The good folks at the Buff will create a supportive, fun atmosphere for you to showcase your skills or lack thereof.

Scaraoke is a free event. Go the wildbuffalo.net for all the details.

Our featured live show this week also takes place on Halloween night. Black Eyes and Neckties are reuniting to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their album Stiletto.

This iconic Bellingham goth-punk band will rock your costumes off along with The Cathoholix and Venenosum at the Shakedown. The show starts at 9 p.m. and you can purchase tickets at shakedownbellingham.com.

Happy Halloween!
