FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A longtime Ferndale factory is closing its doors for good.

Cargill announced in a news release that it is permanently closing its animal feed facility on Nov. 15. The company says it made the decision because there were too many upgrades and investments that were needed to modernize its operations.

Cargill has sold animal feed to farmers for 88 years in Ferndale at its site on 5744 Third Avenue.

The company is planning to demolish the building and says Burlington Northern Railway will take over ownership of the land. After the factory closes, Ferndale customers can still get their Cargill feed products through the company’s facility in Granger or from EPL Feed, LLC in Sumas.

Cargill said in the release that it’s working with its 12 Ferndale employees to help them find jobs at other company facilities in the area.
