BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The City of Bellingham is making progress in renovating one of the city’s unofficial skateparks.

The city purchased the property underneath the Roeder Avenue Bridge in downtown Bellingham from the Port of Bellingham this year. Since then, the city has released plans and a conceptual design for the new skatepark.

According to the city, the budget for this project is capped at $3 million. Working in partnership with Bellingham-based organization Northwest Skate Collective, costs will be divided between the two. The roughly 16,000 square feet of land will be used for skateboarding events, live music and art.

The city currently operates one skatepark at the Civic Athletic Complex.

At this time, there is no estimated time of opening, but the city will be taking public comment in the coming months.
