BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Crews are monitoring a pair of wildfires in rural Skagit and Snohomish Counties.
The U.S. Forest Service says that both fires were caused by lightning and have burnt about a tenth of an acre as of Wednesday afternoon.
Heavy smoke was reported on Monday on the east side of Baker Lake in Skagit County. A handful of firefighters are working to suppress the fire, which is 70% contained.
Further south, a helicopter is working to tamp down flames near the Mountain Loop Highway in Snohomish County.
That fire is burning on a slope, which is making suppression efforts difficult for fire crews.
Neither fire poses a danger to nearby communities or structures.
