A pair of Mariners have been recognized for their outstanding seasons.
Cal Raleigh was named the Sporting News MLB Player of the Year today after leading the league with 60 home runs, becoming just the seventh player in MLB history to reach that mark.
Cal now joins Hall of Famer Johnny Bench as the only catchers to win the award.
All eyes are now on the American League MVP award, which will be announced on Nov. 13.
Meanwhile, M’s skipper Dan Wilson won AL Manager of the Year honors from The Sporting News.
His award came from a peer vote of MLB managers.
Storm News
The Seattle Storm has found their next head coach.
ESPN reports that the Storm have agreed to a multi-year deal with New York Liberty assistant Sonia Raman.
She makes WNBA history as the first person of Indian origin to be named head coach.
The Storm fired Noelle Quinn last month, three days after losing to the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces in the opening round of the playoffs.
Huskies/Cougs News
The Huskies are gearing up for a tough test at home tomorrow. They’re hosting 23rd nationally ranked Illinois with a chance to make a big jump in the Big Ten standings.
UW is coming off a 24-7 loss to Michigan that dropped them into the bottom half of the conference.
Both teams own a 5-2 record going into tomorrow’s matchup. Coverage begins at noon and kickoff is at 12:30 on KPUG.
Meanwhile, the Cougs are hosting Toledo straight off back-to-back games against ranked opponents. Both of Wazzu’s upset attempts came up just short against Ole Miss and Virginia, but they’ll look to rebound against a more comparable Toledo team.
They also kick off at 12:30 pm from Pullman.
The Seahawks have a bye week ahead of their Sunday night matchup against the Commanders in Washington D.C. next weekend.
Kraken News
The Kraken are back at home tomorrow night after ending their road trip on a high note.
Seattle blanked the Winnipeg Jets 3-0 last night to snap the Jets’ five-game win streak.
Jaden Schwartz scored two goals and Joey Daccord made 32 saves in the victory.
It was the Kraken’s only regulation win of their six-game road trip.
They’re back at Climate Pledge now for a five-game homestand, starting with the Edmonton Oilers tomorrow night.

WWU Vikings News
The Western Vikings picked up a trio of big wins last night.
The men’s soccer team beat Northwest Nazarene 3-2 to extend their unbeaten streak to seven.
The Western women also beat Saint Martin’s 2-0 to push their own unbeaten streak to 11.
The 11th-nationally ranked Viks hold a commanding lead atop the GNAC standings.
Meanwhile, Western’s volleyball team beat Seattle Pacific 3 sets to 1 to open the second half of the season with a win.
HS Football News
The Zone’s Friday Night Lights is live at Nooksack Valley High School for the Pioneer’s game against Montesano in a matchup of top ten 1A schools in the state on KPUG.
We’ll also be airing Sehome’s cross-town rivalry match against Squalicum on KGMI.
Allan Fee and the crew will be previewing both those matchups and all the other ones happening around the county as the playoff race heats up with just two weeks left in the regular season.
