WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Repaving on I-5 will cause more overnight slowdowns near Ferndale this week.

WSDOT says that crews will shut down the right lane of I-5 SB between Portal Way and the Nooksack River starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

That work will also close the on-ramp to I-5 SB from Portal Way until 6 a.m. Thursday.

For Thursday night, crews will shut down the left lane of I-5 SB between the SR 543 truck route exit and the Nooksack River Bridge. That work is scheduled to take place between 8 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday.

WSDOT adds that these are the final closures needed to complete their 10-mile-long repaving project from Blaine to Ferndale.

A lane closure has also been announced by WSDOT, impacting travel on Mount Baker Highway.

Both directions of Mount Baker Highway (SR 542) will see rolling slowdowns between Cornell Creek Road (milepost 30) and Swamp Creek (milepost 46) from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.

Those slowdowns will be in place to allow for commercial filming there.

And in Everson, daily lane closures will be in place on Everson Road (SR 544) with alternating traffic on the Nooksack Bridge between Kale Avenue and South and North Harkness Street for maintenance.

Those lane closures will be in place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
