Sonics News

One of the godfathers of Seattle basketball has passed away. 3x Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Lenny Wilkens died yesterday at the age of 88.

Wilkens made 9 All-Star games as a player before winning the third-most games of all time as a coach. He led the Sonics to the 1979 NBA title and won Coach of the Year in 1994.

Wilkens also coached the U.S. to a gold medal in the Atlanta Games in 1996.

His legend was immortalized with a statue outside Climate Pledge Arena over the summer.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks fought their way to another dominant win yesterday. Seattle beat the Arizona Cardinals 44-22 at Lumen Field to win their fourth straight game.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba scored the first touchdown of the game on a 43-yard pass from Sam Darnold, helping JSN become the first receiver to pass 1,000 yards on the season. DeMarcus Lawrence went on to score back-to-back touchdowns off fumble recoveries and the Seahawks led 35-0 midway through the second quarter.

The Seahawks’ defense finished with five sacks while playing without four injured starters. It was Seattle’s ninth straight win over Arizona dating back to 2021.

Their win now sets up a highly-anticipated match against the Rams in Los Angeles next Sunday with sole possession of first place in the NFC West on the line.

Meanwhile, Week 10 of the NFL season is capping off with the Packers and Eagles dueling it out on Monday Night Football. Kickoff is at 5:15 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, the Reign lost to the Orlando Pride 2-0 on Friday in their single-game elimination match in the opening round of the NWSL Playoffs.

Huskies News

The Huskies suffered an ill-timed loss over the weekend. Washington fell to Wisconsin 13-10 on the road on Saturday.

The Huskies choked a 10-3 halftime lead to help snap the Badgers’ six game skid. The loss dropped UW back out of the rankings, just a week after making their first appearance of the season at #24.

The two teams held a moment of silence before the game to honor Washington women’s soccer goalkeeper Mia Hamant, who died Thursday at the age of 21 after a battle with kidney cancer.

Next up for the Huskies, they’re hosting Purdue on Saturday afternoon.

Huskies basketball is back. Former Nooksack Valley standout Devin Coppinger is back for her sophomore season with the Washington women as they play Montana on the road at 6:00 tonight.

The Huskies won their season opener against Seattle U last week, as Coppinger saw 22 minutes of playing time off the bench.

The Washington men started off 2-0 before falling to Baylor 78-69 last night. Next up, they’re playing Washington State in Pullman on Friday.
