The Mariners are starting off the offseason with some turnover in their front office.

The Athletic reports that Seattle’s assistant general manager Andy McKay is leaving the club for a new role as field coordinator with the Cleveland Guardians. He’ll reunite with former Mariners bullpen coach Stephen Vogt, who just wrapped up his second season as the Guardians’ skipper.

McKay has held multiple roles with the M’s over the past 10 seasons, including director of player development and senior director of baseball development. Mariners insider Shannon Drayer says he was an instrumental part of the Mariners’ drafts in recent years.

NBA News

Speaking of GM’s on the move, a Washington native was just bounced from his job in the NBA. The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they’ve fired GM Nico Harrison.

It comes nine months after Harrison made a stunning trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers in a move that sparked severe criticism from Mavs fans and the NBA community as a whole.

Harrison, who was born in Seattle, built a Mavericks team that made the NBA Finals in 2024. But the team decided to move on from him after missing the playoffs last season and starting off this season with a 3-8 record. 

Kraken News

The Kraken are back at Climate Pledge tonight. They’re hosting the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first leg of a brief three-game homestand.

Seattle split the two matches of their weekend road trip, narrowly beating St. Louis in overtime before falling to Dallas by a single goal on Sunday. They’ll look to rebound tonight against a Blue Jackets team that’s dropped its last four matches.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks will have a new starter on their offensive line for the foreseeable future.

Head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters that center Jalen Sundell will miss multiple weeks with a knee injury he suffered in Sunday’s win over Arizona. Macdonald says Sundell could be placed on the injured reserve, but his injury isn’t expected to be season-ending.

Starting in his place will be third-year center Olu Oluwatimi, who made eight starts with the Seahawks in the second half of last season.

The Seahawks’ offensive line has made strides this year, currently allowing the least sacks in the NFL at just 10 in nine games. That’s compared to last season when they gave up the third-most in the league.

UW Huskies News

The Huskies women’s basketball team beat Montana 87-56 last night.

Former Nooksack Valley standout Devin Coppinger had 9 points and 6 rebounds off the bench to help UW improve to 2-0 on the young season.

The Husky women are ranked 25th in the country, the first time they’ve made the national rankings in nearly two years. Next up, they’re on the road against Utah this Saturday.

HS Soccer News

The high school girls soccer state tournament got underway today.

Lynden Christian opened with an 8-0 statement win over Cascade to advance to the 1A quarterfinals. There, the Lyncs will face The Bear Creek School on the road on either Friday or Saturday.

Blaine fell to top-seeded Cedar Park Christian 9-1.

Coming up tomorrow, Sehome is hosting Ellensburg at Civic Field at 5 pm.

HS Volleyball News

Over in prep volleyball, Ferndale is hosting Mount Vernon tonight in the 3A district quarterfinals.

The Golden Eagles own the No. 2 seed in the tournament after finishing the regular season with a 14-3 record. Winner will move on to the semifinals, while the loser will fall to the consolation bracket.

Their match takes place at 7:00 from Ferndale High School.
