Washington State University is on the hunt for a new athletic director.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that Wazzu has fired AD Anne McCoy after more than two decades with the school.
McCoy was promoted to head AD in spring 2024 and was tasked with navigating the school through a massive shakeup in the Pac-12 conference. Her notable hires include men’s basketball coach David Riley and football coach Jimmy Rogers.
In her place, ESPN reports senior deputy AD Jon Haarlow is expected to take the interim position. The school has yet to make an official announcement.
Kraken News
The Kraken suffered another tight loss last night. Seattle fell to the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 in shootouts as the Blue Jackets snapped their four-game skid.
Ryan Winterton scored in the first period to give the Kraken an early lead, but the Blue Jackets tied it in the second. Charlie Coyle went on to score the decisive goal in shootouts for Columbus, the 11th game-winner of his career.
It was the Kraken’s eighth overtime game this season, which is the most in the NHL.
They’ll look to rebound tomorrow night against the Winnipeg Jets. Coverage begins at 6:30 and puck drops at 7 on KPUG.

A former Seahawks star has suffered another setback in the twilight of his career.
The New York Giants announced today that they’re starting Jameis Winston over Russell Wilson against the Packers on Sunday, with starter Jaxon Dart in concussion protocol.
Winston jumped Russ for QB2 on the team’s depth chart in the first major move by interim coach Mike Kafka. It comes days after the Giants fired former head coach Brian Daboll on Monday following the team’s 2-8 start to the season.
Wilson started the first three games of the year for New York before being benched in favor of the rookie Dart.

Western’s women’s soccer team cleaned up in the postseason awards today.
Vikings senior Morgan Manalili was the unanimous selection as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year. She’s the fifth player in program history to win the award.
Nine more Viks were named to the All-GNAC teams. Among them was junior midfielder Reese Walker, who won Newcomer of the Year after transferring from Spokane Community College.
And Travis Connell was voted the GNAC Coach of the Year for the second straight year and ninth time overall.
The Viks repeated as regular-season GNAC champions this year, running through the conference with an unbeaten 11-0-3 record. They’ll start the conference tournament tomorrow afternoon when they face Seattle Pacific in a semifinal match in Burnaby, BC.
Western still hasn’t lost a match since Sept. 10 as the 12th-ranked D-II team in the country.
HS Volleyball News
Ferndale’s volleyball team is moving on to the district tournament semifinals.
The Golden Eagles edged Mount Vernon in a tight, five-set match last night. They now advance to face Everett tomorrow night with a chance to clinch a spot in the 3A state tournament.
Tomorrow’s match starts at 7 pm from Stanwood High School.

Meanwhile, Sehome’s girls soccer team is hosting Ellensburg tonight in the opening round of the 2A state tournament.
The third-seeded Mariners still have yet to lose this season, boasting an 18-0-1 record. Their game starts at 5:00 from Civic Field.
Lynden Christian is the only other school from Whatcom County that’s still contending for a state soccer title. The 6th-seeded Lyncs beat Cascade 8-0 yesterday to move on to the 1A quarterfinals, where they’ll face the Bear Creek School on the road this weekend.
