WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two drivers were rescued after getting stuck in snow-filled backroads off the Mount Baker Highway.
Whatcom County Search and Rescue says it responded to a call around 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
A driver had traveled about a mile past the snow line on a Forest Service road to Twin Lakes when his truck got stuck and blocked the road.
He then hiked nearly 3 miles to the Mount Baker Highway to reach cell service and call for help.
Five Search and Rescue volunteers arrived to find a second vehicle that was also stuck behind the blocked road.
The team used vehicle-mounted winches to pull both vehicles loose and clear the roadway, and both parties were sent on their way without any injuries.
Search and Rescue says the incident is a good reminder to know your vehicle’s capabilities in the winter and always carry extra food, water and warm layers just in case.
