OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Washington’s Attorney General is taking aim at a major online betting platform.

State Attorney General Nick Brown announced a lawsuit against betting company Kalshi on Friday, March 27.

In his suit, Brown accuses Kalshi of violating state law by posing as an illegal gambling outlet, despite branding itself as a prediction market.

Kalshi’s platform allows anyone 18 and older to place bets on sports, world events, and political contests. That includes recent controversial bets on geopolitical tensions, like the fluctuation of oil prices, raising concerns over potential insider trading.

Brown argues that Kalshi’s marketing is aimed at college-age young adults, which makes them more susceptible to gambling addictions later in life.

Washington state has banned all forms of internet gambling since 2006.
