Mariners News

The Mariners are back from the All-Star break.

They’re kicking off a six-game homestand tonight against the San Francisco Giants.

The M’s limped to the break, having lost five of their six games in Florida last week. They sit a game and a half behind the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West.

They’re now facing a Giants team that owns a bottom-five record in the MLB. Their series will feature a homecoming of sorts when former M’s hurler Robbie Ray takes the mound on Sunday.

But before that, Bryce Miller is starting for tonight’s opener. Coverage begins at 6:00 and first pitch is at 7:10 on KPUG.

Bells News

The Bells are hitting the road this weekend as they get back into West Coast League play.

They’re opening a three-game series in Kamloops against the NorthPaws.

The Bells are coming off a three game sweep of their non-league homestand this past week. They wrapped it up with an 8-3 win over Gunderson Baseball Academy last night.

The game was cut short after five innings due to lightning. But that didn’t stop the Bells from scoring seven runs in the first inning to power the dominant win. Shortstop Tyler Peshke highlighted the effort with a bases-clearing single to drive in three runs.

The Bells now enter a critical stretch of their season with 18 games remaining.

They’ve stumbled through the second half of the season with a 3-6 record, tied for last in the North Division. They need to either win the division in the second half or finish in the top four in the overall season standings in order to advance to the playoffs.

First pitch for tonight’s game is at 6:35 in Kamloops, BC.

Storm News

The struggling Storm are going up against one of the most talked about figures in sports tonight.

They’re in Indiana for a game against Caitlin Clark and the Fever.

Clark has drawn headlines recently for some of the hard fouls she’s drawn. She’s still put together a strong sophomore season, averaging 20 points and nearly 8 assists per game, which ranks second in the league.

Indiana also features the league’s second-leading scorer in Kelsey Mitchell.

The Storm have a big challenge on their hands if they want to avoid dropping their fourth straight. Tonight’s game tips off at 4:30 from Indianapolis.

Sounders News

The Sounders got thumped in their return to the pitch last night.

They fell to the Portland Timbers 5-1 at Lumen Field in their first match back from the World Cup. Hassani Dotson scored Seattle’s sole goal in the 87th minute, but they were already down 4-0 by that point.

It marked the Sounders’ third straight loss. They’ll try to right the ship against Austin FC on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Reign play on the road tomorrow against Gotham FC.

Elsewhere in the world of soccer, the World Cup Final is taking place this weekend.

Lionel Messi and Argentina are taking on Spain at noon on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Argentina is seeking its fourth title and aims to be the first back-to-back champion since Brazil in 1958 and 1962.  Spain is after its second-ever title, having won in 2010.
