BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Cooler weather has moved into Whatcom County just in time for a weekend full of festivals and block parties. From Birch Bay to Ferndale to Bellingham, there is plenty to do in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.
August is here and that means it is time for the Ferndale Block Party. Hosted by the Ferndale Arts Commission and FrinGe Brewing, this annual event features two days of fun for the whole family.
The block party kicks off on Friday, July 31 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with live music and food trucks. Then on Saturday, August 1 from noon to 9 p.m. there will be more live music, food trucks, vendors, kids’ activities, a motorcycle show, the Rock the Block Mural Project and more.
The Ferndale Block Party is a free, all-ages event. FrinGe Brewing is located at 5640 3rd Ave.
Farther north, Birch Bay’s 43rd annual Sand Sculpture Competition is on Saturday, August 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Birch Bay State Park.
It all centers around the sand sculpting competition, but there will also be a beer garden, live music, food trucks, and more.
If you are looking to take in some psych rock in the City of Subdued Excitement, you are in luck. The Acid Ball Psych Fest is on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Kulshan Brewing’s Trackside location on Bellingham’s waterfront.
This year’s lineup includes Death Valley Girls, Black Ends, Mega Cat, Denim Genie and Checker Room.
Tickets for the Acid Ball Psych Fest are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and free for kids under 12.

Los Angeles-based post punk trio Automatic will bring their hypnotic rhythms to town for a night of retro fun. Fans of Beach House, Joy Division and Radiohead don’t want to miss this one.
