WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A woman accused of neglecting dozens of dogs at a rescue she ran has been arrested.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says that 38-year-old Ashley Georgia was taken into custody earlier Friday morning, Oct. 23.

My Bellingham Now previously reported on a search warrant served at a residence south of Lynden, where Georgia ran a rescue program called Pittie Project PNW.

At the time, 17 dogs were removed from the location on Oct. 5, many of whom were malnourished and had open wounds. Multiple bags of unopened dog food were also discovered inside the residence.

All of the animals were put into the care of the Whatcom Humane Society, which reports the dogs are recovering well.

A subsequent arrest warrant was issued for the owner a few days later.

Georgia faces 30 counts of animal cruelty and remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
