BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A major telecommunications provider is laying off dozens of workers across the state, including in Bellingham.
Comcast said in a WARN notice to the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) on Thursday, Oct. 29, that they plan to lay off 159 workers starting at the end of December.
Some of the affected employees work virtually, while others are located at Comcast’s regional offices, including in Bellingham on Sequoia Drive. Their positions range from finance analysts and engineers to supervisors and managers.
Comcast said in their letter to ESD that they are “fundamentally redesigning” their organization to better compete in a “rapidly changing industry.”
The mass media giant added that they will be posting more than 1,100 new positions and hope that many of the affected employees will remain with the company.
The layoffs will take effect starting on Dec. 31 and continue through late March 2027.
Comcast has not responded to My Bellingham Now’s requests for comment on how many of the layoffs are taking place in Bellingham.
