ANACORTES, Wash. – Crews are cleaning up a diesel spill from a train derailment near Anacortes.

The Director of Hazardous Materials Safety for BNSF says about 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel leaked from the wreck.

“We see no fuel migration from the track surface and the bed where it was at towards that,” said the director. “And obviously, you know, a goal is going to be to remove that soil to prevent that migration.”

Two locomotives and one car of the BNSF train went off the rails near the Swinomish Casino around midnight on Thursday, March 16th.

No one was injured.
