FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Ferndale School District’s Superintendent Dr. Kristi Dominguez just received an award for her work in the district.

The Crystal Apple Award is one of the highest awards given by the Washington School Public Relations Association (WSPRA).

Ferndale School District’s Director of Communications Celina Rodriguez says Dr. Dominguez received the award for her belief in using communication to improve culture and public perception of the district. Since starting at the district in July 2022, Rodriguez adds that Dr. Dominguez has fostered connections both in and outside of the district.

Dr. Dominguez launched the “You Belong” campaign that school year after data found few students and staff felt a sense of belonging within the district’s schools. Her “Listen & Learn” tour at the beginning of her tenure also placed Dr. Dominguez in every room of the district’s schools to hear from students and staff. Her work with the communication team added a public records officer in her second year and she elevated the communications director to the superintendent’s cabinet.

Rodriguez says that Dr. Dominguez’s support and impact on the community has been profound.
