The Mariners are looking to rebound tonight from what was a rough showing at home over the weekend.

The M’s got swept by the San Diego Padres to end their season series without a win.

The Padres shut them out on Friday before scoring seven runs off Logan Gilbert on Saturday. The Mariners closed the series yesterday by managing just a single hit in their 8-3 loss.

20-year-old Colt Emerson made his career debut after the M’s placed Brendan Donovan on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain. The Mariners’ top prospect drew a walk and scored a run while manning third base.

Seattle lost ground in the division race, as they now sit two games behind the Athletics for first place.

They’ll aim to make it up in tonight’s series opener against the Chicago White Sox. But it won’t be easy: the surging Sox have seven of their last eight games, including when they took two out of three against the Mariners the previous weekend.

Bryan Woo is on the mound tonight as the M’s look to snap their three-game skid. Coverage begins at 5:40 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

WHL News

The Everett Silvertips won the Western Hockey League Championship over the weekend.

The Silvertips beat Prince Albert 7-2 on Friday to secure their first-ever Ed Chynoweth Cup. It followed a historic regular season that saw them win a league-best 57 games.

They’re now gearing up for the Memorial Cup in Kelowna, with their first game set for Saturday.

Storm News

The Storm’s early-season struggles continued yesterday.

Seattle fell to the Indiana Fever 89-78 to fall to 1-3 on the year. Caitlin Clark had 21 points and 10 assists to help the Fever pick up their first home win.

The Storm will now return to Climate Pledge Arena for a four-game homestand, starting with the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night.

Sounders/Reign News

The Sounders had their unbeaten streak snapped over the weekend.

They fell to the LA Galaxy 2-0 on Saturday at Lumen Field. Seattle hadn’t lost in MLS play since Feb. 28 entering the match.

They’re sitting in 4th place in the Western Conference standings. Next up, they’ll play LAFC on the road on Sunday. 

Meanwhile, the Reign fell to Gotham FC 2-0 on Friday. The struggling Reign haven’t won a match since late March.

WWU Vikings News

Western’s top nationally ranked women’s rowing team continued its stellar season over the weekend.

The Vikings put up a perfect team score to win the GNAC Championships on Saturday. It was their third win in the six-year history of the event.

They now await the NCAA Selection Show tomorrow afternoon to see where they’ll start the two-day national championship in Georgia later this month.

Meanwhile, the Vikings’ softball team had its season come to an end on Friday in a regional round loss to Cal State East Bay.

Prep Sports News

The playoff picture is set for Whatcom County schools heading to the state tournament.

Boys soccer is first up, with the state tourney kicking off tomorrow.

Lynden Christian got the 19th-seed in the 1A bracket and will play 14th-seeded University Prep in the opening round at 6 pm tomorrow at King’s High School. Meridian drew the 12th-seed and will face Raymond-South Bend in Wenatchee on Friday.

In the 2A tournament, undefeated Squalicum earned the No. 2 seed and will play Clover Park on Wednesday. Lynden drew the 11th-seed and will play on the road against Cedarcrest. Sehome got the 12th-seed and will play on the road against East Valley of Yakima, with both of those matches also happening on Wednesday.

 

Over in fastpitch softball, Lynden Christian earned the No. 6 seed in the 1A bracket and will face 11th-seeded Columbia in the opening round in Richland Thursday.

Lynden drew the No. 5 seed in the 2A tournament and will play 12th-seeded Cedarcrest in Selah on Friday morning.

 

And in baseball, Lynden Christian beat Cedar Park Christian in the bi-district championship over the weekend, as the Lyncs earned the No. 3 seed in the 1A tourney.

They’ll host 14th-seeded Naches Valley in the opening round at Joe Martin Stadium this Saturday.

In the 2A tournament, Lynden got the 8-seed and will face 9th-seeded Fife at Bainbridge on Saturday. Sehome drew the 12th seed and will be on the road against 5th-seeded W.F. West.
