Prep Football News

Week 5 of the prep football season is getting underway tonight.

Allan Fee and The Zone crew are live at Lynden Christian for the Lyncs’ homecoming game against Meridian. Their Friday Night Lights pregame show will preview that matchup and all the other ones happening across the county tonight, leading up to the 7:00 kickoff between the Lyncs and Trojans on KPUG with Randy Farmer and the coach Dan Kaemingk on the call.

Over on KGMI, the Blaine Borderites are traveling to Nooksack Valley to face the Pioneers in their conference opener. That game also kicks off at 7:00 with Jason Upton and Rick Todd on the call.

Elsewhere around the county tonight…

Lummi Nation is home for Tulalip Heritage in a matchup of undefeated teams.

Squalicum is on the road against Archbishop Murphy.

Bellingham is at Marysville-Pilchuck.

Sehome hosts Lynden.

Ferndale is at Mount Vernon, all kicking off at 7:00.

Coming up tomorrow, Mount Baker hosts Onalaska at 1 pm.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks are looking to rebound from a tough loss this weekend.

They’re hosting Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon.

Seattle’s coming off a shootout loss to a shorthanded Commanders team last week that snapped their franchise-best 12 game win streak.

They now face a struggling Chargers team that’s still searching for their first win of the season. It will be a reunion between Mike Macdonald and second-year Chargers coach Harbaugh, who coached together at Michigan in 2021.

Veteran safety Julian Love confirmed he will return this weekend after missing last game with a calf injury. Coverage begins at 11 am Sunday and kickoff is at 1:25 on KPUG.

The game is also being televised on CBS, which announced today that Tony Romo will not return as an NFL game analyst after he was arrested in July for driving while intoxicated.

Huskies/Cougs News

The Huskies are facing a tough road challenge tomorrow.

They’re playing 18th nationally-ranked USC in their second game of Big Ten play.

UW will look to rebound after suffering their first loss of the season to Minnesota last week. They’re now facing a Trojans team that’s also coming off their first loss to No. 15 Oregon.

Coverage begins at 2:30 and kickoff is at 4:30 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, the Cougs are playing their first conference game in the newly-revamped Pac-12. They’re hosting Fresno State at 6:30.

Kraken News

The Kraken started their season off with a bang last night.

They beat the Calgary Flames 6-1 on the road in their season opener. Vince Dunn had a goal and two assists to headline a night where Seattle got all six of their goals from different players.

The Kraken will finish off their road trip by playing the Edmonton Oilers tomorrow before returning for their home opener against the Flames on Monday.

Coverage for tomorrow’s game against the Oilers begins at 3:30 and puck drops at 4 on KGMI.

MLB Playoffs News

The divisional round of the MLB playoffs starts tomorrow.

The Braves beat the Phillies 6-2 last night to advance in a winner-takes-all Game 3 in the Wild Card round. They’ll now take on the defending World Series champion Dodgers in LA tomorrow.

On the other side of the National League bracket, the Brewers are hosting the Padres to open their best-of-five series.

In the American League, the Guardians are hosting the White Sox and the Rays are hosting the Yankees.

WNBA Playoff News

Speaking of the playoffs, we just saw some of the best players in the WNBA go head-to-head in a winner-take-all game last night.

The defending champion Las Vegas Aces beat the Indiana Fever 94-83 to advance to the semifinals. 4x MVP A’ja Wilson scored 36 for the Aces while Caitlin Clark had 18 for the Fever in the loss.

Vegas now faces the winner of tonight’s game between the Golden State Valkyries and Dallas Wings.

NBA News

The Trail Blazers are having a hard time replacing longtime Sonics broadcaster Kevin Calabro in Portland.

The team fired its new play-by-play announcer yesterday, just hours after announcing the hire. It said in a statement that old social media posts by 29-year-old Braiden Bell violated team policies and made mistakes in the hiring process.

KGW in Portland uncovered the posts, which expressed racist and sexist comments from when Bell was 15 years old.

WWU Vikings News

Western’s women’s soccer team got help from some homegrown talent to earn a win yesterday.

Freshman Keira Reeves assisted her former Sehome High School teammate Triya Mitchell on an insurance goal in their 2-0 win over Western Oregon. It helped the Vikings stay undefeated in GNAC play as they improved to 6-1-3 on the season.

Next up, the 17th nationally-ranked Viks are playing St. Martin’s at 3:30 tomorrow in Lacey.

Meanwhile, the men’s team played No. 19 Northwest Nazarene to a 2-2 draw last night.  They’re back at it tomorrow afternoon when they host Seattle Pacific at 4:00.
