WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Precipitation in the forecast has led to a winter weather alert for the Cascades.

The National Weather Service says that a winter weather advisory will take effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Between 4 and 8 inches of snow are expected around 4,000 feet in the mountains of eastern Whatcom and Skagit counties.

Anyone planning to travel through mountain passes — like the North Cascades Highway — is urged to take precautions and drive slower through the snow.

My Bellingham Now previously reported on weekend snow shutting down the last 2.7 miles of the Mount Baker Highway Sunday, Oct. 25.
