Seahawks News
The Seahawks just made a major trade to bolster their offensive line.
Seattle acquired 3x All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth.
The 30-year-old Nelson has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight seasons. He’s in the final season of his contract as the Colts look to reboot after firing their general manager last week.
The Seahawks are aiming to improve an o-line that has struggled to protect Sam Darnold and anchor a consistent run game.
They’re back in the primetime spotlight next week when they host the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
The Seahawks’ division rivals also got in on the Colts’ fire sale today. The 49ers acquired 3x Pro-Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from Indy for a 2027 4th-round pick, just hours after they dealt Nelson.
Mariners News
The Mariners are nearing a final decision on their next manager.
The Seattle Times reports that the club has scheduled formal, in-person interviews with their two finalists this week: former Astros manager Joe Espada and Cubs director of player development Jason Kanzler.
Sources told the Times that the interviews will take place today and tomorrow, and the team’s tentative plan is to name a new manager by the end of the week.
The M’s had scheduled a third in-person interview this week, but former Twins manager Rocco Baldelli withdrew his name from consideration on Sunday.
Huskies News
The Huskies will be missing a key contributor and Whatcom County native for the rest of the year.
Starting center and former Ferndale High School standout Landen Hatchett announced yesterday that he’ll miss the rest of the season due to a head, neck and spine injury.
The senior missed the first five games of the season with a wrist injury before making his season debut against Iowa.
But Hatchett says he plans to return in 2027. New eligibility rules will allow him to play one more year because he didn’t redshirt during his freshman season in 2023.
His brother, Geirean, has played in every game this season, starting three games at right guard.
