The approved programming places the jail’s size at about 150,000 square feet with between 450 and 460 beds.

The site will be logged in an effort to prevent people from returning.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says both victims suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The 47-year-old suspect had been on supervised release following an arrest in Whatcom County.

The victim was treated at PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

The council has a chance to accept initial programming for the jail, including the building size and bed count.

The unit was shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. Other grant dollars going elsewhere in the state will be spent on technology upgrades, officer training, crime prevention programs and specialized equipment.

He’s also believed to have broken windows at the victim’s business in the suspected hate crime.

Farinacci, 37, is charged with starting the Old Trails fire, one of three blazes in the Spokane area that have burned more than 850 buildings, destroying whole neighborhoods and streets. No deaths or serious injuries have been reported.

DNR says unauthorized drones have forced firefighters to suspend flying aircraft to fight the blazes. The FBI has partnered with Spokane and King County officers to enforce the no-fly zone.
