The suspect was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on Tuesday where he remains without bail.
Whatcom County, Bellingham, Ferndale and Lynden will get a sizable share of $55 million to combat the opioid crisis.
The Washington man and an accomplice allegedly killed approximately 3,600 birds on a reservation and elsewhere. They intended to sell the birds’ tail feathers on the black market.
The man was a previously registered sex offender in 2005.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries.

The suspect in the overdose death was in the jail for narcotics possession and a police chase.

The pair had gotten into an argument over a failed drug transaction just before the incident.
