OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another massive opioid settlement has been reached between the state and a major grocery chain.
State Attorney General Bob Ferguson said that Kroger has agreed to pay the state $47.5 million in opioid epidemic resolution funding. The payment won’t go into effect until more states involved in the lawsuit agree to the terms.
Once effective, Kroger will pay out the total amount over 11 years.
Additional lawsuits filed by Ferguson’s office against Albertson’s and Rite Aid are still pending.
Washington has now secured over $1.2 billion in payments related to the opioid epidemic. Whatcom County is on track to receive a total of $12.3 million from the newest total announced on Tuesday, April 23.
