Dave Hakstol is out as head coach of the Seattle Kraken.
The team announced today that Hakstol will not return after three seasons in Seattle.
He went 107-112-27 with the Kraken as the first coach of the young franchise.
Hakstol helped take them within one game of the Western Conference Finals last season and was named as a finalist for the NHL’s Coach of the Year Award.
Last season’s success also earned him a two-year contract extension.
But this season’s team finished 19 points worse than last year’s record and was eliminated from the playoffs by early April.
The club also announced that assistant coach Paul McFarland would not return next season either.
The Sounders’ struggles continued over the weekend in a 2-1 loss to D.C United.

The Sounders have gone winless in their last three games and have just one goal scored in that span.
Seattle Reign FC didn’t fare much better, falling to the North Carolina Courage 1-0 on Saturday.
