BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A local real estate agent’s quest to fight food insecurity has landed him a high honor.
Serve Washington, a volunteer organization run through AmeriCorps, has awarded Ethan Hunger its Individual Volunteer Service Award for the Northwest Region.
Hunger started his Hunger vs Hunger campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to highlight food insecurity in Whatcom County. He’s raised nearly $400,000 for the Bellingham Food Bank by burning as many calories as he can in one day, once a year.
Hunger notes that one of the driving factors in his mission is the fact that 20% of Whatcom County residents rely on food bank assistance.
Serve Washington took note of his Hunger vs Hunger endeavor last year, when he raised almost $250,000 while completing an 18-hour day of strenuous exercise.
Hunger’s 2025 fundraiser is scheduled to take place on July 19.
